The successor of a dressmaking school established in Aoyama, Tokyo in 1919, Bunka Fashion College gained recognition in 1923 as the very first fashion school in Japan. The number of alumni has surpassed 300,000 since that time, and the college has produced many designers who have succeeded in Japan and around the world. The history of Bunka Fashion College is synonymous with the history of Japanese fashion.

Admission requirements
(1) Applicants must be of non-Japanese nationality, and must be 18 years old by March 3, 2016.
(2) Applicants must have completed a regular 12-year course of school education and have qualified (or be expected to qualify) to apply for a university in their country by March 31, 2016. Applicants designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology are also qualified to apply. *Applicants who have completed a foreign country’s school program equivalent to a high school program but less than 12 years long may be eligible for application to this college depending on an individual qualification screening process.
(3) Applicants who have studied at a Japanese language school approved by the Ministry of Justice must have had an attendance rate of at least 80% at that school.
(4) Applicants must have a good enough command of Japanese to understand lectures held in Japanese at the college. To prove this, applicants must fulfill at least one of the following qualifications ①-⑤:
"① Passed Level N2, or Level 2, or higher of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) administered by Japan Educational Exchange and Services (JEES) and the Japan Foundation.
② Achieved a score of 200 or more since April 2014 in the subject “Japanese as a Foreign Language” of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) administered by the Japan Students Services Organization (JASSO).
③ Achieved a score of 400 or more in the Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT) administered by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation.
④ Have received Japanese language education for 6 months or more at a Japanese language school approved by the Ministry of Justice.
⑤ Have received education for one year or more at a school as defined in Article 1 of the School Education Act."
(5) Applicants must prove their ability to cover their costs while enrolled, such as academic fees and living expenses.
Selection method
(1) Japanese entrance examination, written + essay (400 characters): 70 minutes, aural examination: 20 minutes
(2) Interview
