Shibaura Institute of Technology was founded in 1927 by Shiro Arimoto as Tokyo Higher School of Industry and Commerce, with the founding philosophy of "nurturing engineers who learn from society and contribute to society". Since then, espousing the development of "engineers who can seek the truth through practical learning, engineers with a deep sense of ethics and rich insight, and engineers with a free and independent spirit who can master details", it has produced many graduates who have contributed to Japan's social development.
Now, our institute has broadened its fields beyond engineering and into education in physical sciences and design, in order to train students who can meet the demands of an increasingly complex and advanced society. Based on our founding philosophy of focusing on practical learning, we will try and meet society's expectations by promoting education, research and innovation (the creation of social and economic value) in an integrated manner and pressing forward with reforms.
Before applying to enter this institute, candidates should understand our founding philosophy and who we think is an "ideal student", as well as the details of each college's educational policy.department curriculums, and academic and research content. We offer a very warm welcome to candidates who have the following characteristics, and give various support to students who are passionate about making their dreams a reality.
1. People who are hungry to learn and research at this university and hope to enhance their self-development and self-fulfillment here.
2. People who have studied basic mathematics and natural sciences (subjects such as physics, chemistry and biology), have a strong interest in engineering and technology, and are willing to apply what they have learned to contribute to the sustainable development of Japan and the world.
3. People with the fortitude to acquire a wide range of knowledge, experience and communication skills at this institute, remain conscious of their social involvement while being aware of their duty as a member of civil society. and devote themselves to human progress and the conservation of the global environment.
